Tips for coaching baseball
Getting involved in some kind of sports is always considered good for health. There are two ways you can remain in touch with the game; playing for your own interest or coaching people including kids. Since it is advised to put children under the guidance of a good coach, more people now get their kids enrolled in sports academy. Being a coach in a specialized sport like baseball is a good career option.
If you are providing baseball coaching, especially to young ones, here are some tips you must pay attention to.
Before taking admission, you have to find out if any applicant suffers from any illness. If he/she is found so, then you need to take some specific precaution while playing baseball. So please check that all the applicants whether kids or grown-ups, have gone through a proper medical check-up. You must see that those, who have some problem, stick to the rules and advices in order to stay fit and safe.
To play a game safely, it is very important to know the technicalities of that sport. So, make them aware of the technicalities of the game. If a game is not played following the techniques, one is likely to get hurt specially in the head. Therefore, being a coach you must ensure that your students learn and follow the techniques of baseball.
For example; a coach must tell the perfect way to throw a ball, like releasing the ball out in front of your body when your arm passes over the head. Teach the child how to keep his eyes set on a fixed target while throwing the ball.
Enforce all the rules of a game and encourage the players to play safely so as no one gets hurt. In your special effort, you must make the children know and understand the special injury risks involved in the game of baseball. You should also tell them how to go pitching, sliding or dodging a ball pitched directly at them without getting injured.
Have a careful watch over the players while they are playing and decide their position. Like if the player at the pitcher position is very young then you have to see that pitching time is limited so that the child gets rest periods in between.
If your coaching class includes students from different age groups then you have to see that in the beginning of the training, children play with the same age and weight group. Being in the company of same skill and physical maturity level will help them to feel secure. Once a person feels secure, he/she gradually develops confidence. And to play a game well, confidence is immensely needed!
Another point which a coach must pay attention to is regular exercise routine. Before the game begins, the players have to do regular stretching and strengthening exercises. You must ensure that children always do warm up exercise before each game.
Try to be connected with the parents of your trainee students. This will benefit you to get the best out of a child and at the same time, the parents will in touch with their wards’ progress.
Remember, not to put too much pressure and focus on winning the game. Rather make them learn how to enjoy baseball while having fun. Too much stress on winning can lead the children getting injured.
